More than a feature request, it's a question? There's people that haven't signed in, in like a year and they're still in the top taking their spot, maybe leave that spot for active (signed within 6~9 months?) players? I doubt this was a feature back then but maybe good as a discussion starter :D give your opinions on this!

I believe there was a thread asking about this in the past. My opinion is that if we did this the leaderboard would be pretty empty most of the time with a small server like this. Even if you can then take the top spot, would it feel as much of an accomplishment with such a small amount of players to pass?

And I am still of the opinion that it is definitely needed, as there is no inherent value added in keeping inactive users in leaderboards. All it serves, in my opinion, is just to flood the leaderboards to make them artificially more populated than they realistically are.

I don't think most players would look towards the leaderboard and immediately think "damn this server is small", it's quite literally enough to look at the total users, online and amount of submitted plays metric for anyone to get a glancing impression that this server is small.

So as far as I am concerned, I am in large support of this idea.

Im mostly against it. I feel like it devalues the feeling when I reach a certain rank since I only got it because of inactivity. This would also affect other mode leaderboards since those are a lot more inactive. Maybe if titanic was like the size of Akatsuki we could get away with that but I think its fine leaving the leaderboards as they are for now.

I don't see how that's a problem? It's already largely known that modes outside of Standard and maybe Mania are niche at best.

Taiko, for example, if not for the Japanese playerbase, would be the smallest game mode in Bancho as well. The ranking curve there reflects that as well.

we don't need to hide them in the leaderboard, i think i would prefer gray/faded name instead from not being online for a long time

Let me describe my disliking of how it’s done on bancho, and let me describe how I may go to solve this for titanic. Because I do think both have merit.

You may feel that global ranking should be like a season in another video game. A set period of time that you can reign over, and it should reset. But this idea is predicated on the idea that everyone knows how long a season may last. On bancho they are inconsistent about how long inactive are visible for. Sometimes they got 2 years without purging, sometimes it happens multiple times in a year. So then to me it feels arbitrary.

I for one, am a large enjoyer of the history of osu! Seasons could allow you to go back in time to see who reigned in what seasons. Right now players just disappear after their time passes, so their legacy is basically erased.

I also like to compare myself against all that came before me. So this is my proposal. A true global leaderboard, it’s everyone to have ever played. And second a seasonal leaderboard. With defined times of valid play, and the ability to see who was dominate in previous seasons. Just like with switching between ranked score and ranked pp in game, there could be a set command on titanic for this.

Now you can play how you want, you are given choice, and nothing has to feel arbitrary. 

I'm personally against it too, but let me test on staging how a "grey username" may look like on the rankings.

It's time to bring back seasonal rankings then, huh?
I had this on my todo-list ever since I've written the score submission code back in 2022 ^^

how would that look? i would love to play in the seasonal rankings btw, i kind of feel like i've exhausted my global ranking drive so getting #1 every season would be cool too :)

I feel like it would reward players to actively play and stay engaged in the community, which sounds like a net positive! Being inactive isn't a big deal anyways, set one play and you're good, but thats just my opinion tho
