I bring bad news.

Both WebSocket and TCP result in the issue, I had user Vladkrip (thank you ukrainian taiko player) play through an entire marathon map for testing, both failed and resulted in a silent disconnect from Bancho while watching roughly around the same time.

During my testing, Bancho also randomly silently disconnected me while I was on WebSocket, however, knew I was disconnected as my chatbox randomly disappeared and was unable to bring it back unless I signed back in.

TCP took a bit longer to sign back into Bancho while WebSocket was 2 seconds faster.

(WebSocket)

(TCP)

At the end of both videos, I switch scenes to a full desktop with a browser opened with a stopwatch to show how slowly it takes it load back into Bancho.

this is so weird why is it happening tho

I fixed the "slow reconnect" to bancho last night. The "instant reconnects" (that's how they are called internally) were not really working properly.
I also managed to get TCP and HTTP to behave while spectating Kurboh doing a Marathon, so let's hope this is somehow resolved in the next release.

I for sure feel like there should be an option in-game to change your connection type in case something like this happens again.

Absolutely not. Users should not be given the option to choose to have less secure connections. WebSocket already has fallback connection options built into it. This only exists temporarily as a just in case backup while developing this. WebSocket only just came to Digital Client a month ago, once the feature fully works you will never need to switch it.
