Currently, this feature (BAT Controls) is only limited to BATs, but what about mapset creators (rename to Controls) who can only change the language and genre, just like in the present beatmap information page?

Here is the supposed output if implemented below: (mock-up)

This is to give access to mappers who uploaded their mapset using b99 (assuming that there is no tags field in the osu file format v3 (correct me if I'm wrong), and in any case that some BATs are offline).

Permissions hierarchy:
  • BATs - Genre, Language, Offset, Title / Ranking / Files
  • Mappers (if not BAT)- Genre & Language

Provide me the screenshot of the beatmap information of your own beatmap, and make sure that it has a pencil icon (which is the edit, if I vaguely remember) where you can edit both genre/language
    SPOILER
    even I never use Bancho…

Edit: I need someone for help!

The quick fix would be the tags here, as said by Avril. Is there still any demand for this?

The demand goes to any mappers who are not yet familiar on putting genres to tags. I remember that time when someone posted a map using b99, and the genre/language is unspecified by default (also goes for Bancho, before the feature was added March or April 2020)

Looking back to this, there was some GitHub commit that it has "explicit" column to beatmapsets table

So that means there's some potential that we can turn on Explicit checkbox in "Controls" (the one I conceptually made…)

+1 if this were to be added then you should also be able to add tags in the website too since this would only be useful for older clients that don't have tags.

(can also put a warning before using it since it only sets the tags online)

Thankfully you clarified it and this gets my point.

using tags to change the genre/language is annoying especially when there's multiple languages / genres and it just picks from tags

Then the first one is picked up via tags. So in case there's confusion, mapper can freely change if the song is from the a***e or the game, basically first comes first

While yes, tags can be used to automatically change the genre or language for maps, it is sometimes bugged and doesn't do it and BAT's will have to manually update them.

I would find this to be extremely useful and don't fully understand why it was denied, people can't abuse it.

https://osu.titanic.sh/b/1000004115 shows as "Metal" even though it's supposed to be genre video game, and I have no way to fix this because tags were never a valid substitute for website metadata. why was this rejected?
