this is a full proposal for a feature-complete seasonal leaderboard!

Distinction from current (eternal) leaderboard

Eternal leaderboard should stay as-is. I suggested in another thread to give gray names to inactive players and never remove them from the leaderboard, but honestly it's not that big of a deal for that either if seasonal leaderboards get added.

Seasonal leaderboards last for three months. (literally seasonal)

Players have current seasonal leaderboard stats alongside eternal leaderboard shown on their profile by default, without any toggles or expands necessary.

Any scores players set for a seasonal leaderboard are still counted to eternal leaderboards of course.

Categories within seasonal leaderboards

Two main categories for leaderboards: ppv2 and ranked score.

In these two categories, there is the Normal leaderboard, and there is the Expert leaderboard. The Normal leaderboard only has scores set with a star rating below 5.5*. The Expert leaderboard only has scores set above 5*. Reason: It would be unfair for most of Titanic's playerbase to compete with top players on higher skill cap maps due to skill difference, or unengaging for the top players to have to compete with the average player on lower difficulties. A player is not locked out of participating in either subcategory, but the split encourages competitive play across skill levels.

Seasonal map pool

Curated random selection of Bancho ranked maps, Titanic exclusives (exist on Bancho but is not ranked), and Titanic originals (maps submitted to Titanic). It is a large selection for the season, but does not include every map ever, avoiding excessive repeats over seasons. Reason: Encouraging competition on map leaderboards, less repetition of necessary scores across seasons.

There should be a map pool page, showing a simplified listing of all eligible sets, with a small separated leaderboard of the top three players for ppv2 and ranked score on that map.

Mockup I made in like 5 minutes:

(should also have sr, pp if ss/max score, whatever stats)

End-of-season awards

At the end of a seasonal leaderboard, players receive a little badge for their accomplishment, scaling from participation (played a couple times), competitor (active participant, includes rank position in leaderboards), and top player (cool aesthetic scales with rank in a leaderboard). only aesthetic, and it should be easily visible on a player's profile. respects Normal/Expert split

Reason: it's cool to have that history preserved and people can be proud of their achievements if they dedicated their time and effort to it :)

Sounds fun. How many maps would be in the seasonal mappool?

Isn't the idea that the beatmaps submitted from that "season" are added to the mappool

or so it's an unchanging pool you can do it where it's from the previous season?
example Spring 2016 in Summer 2016

I haven't figured out that detail totally yet but it shouldn't be restricted to just maps in a certain time period, it's "curated random" so if maps kind of suck they just get removed, and for maps that would be cool they can be added. An initial random set is created and then admins can add or remove maps for quality/promotion reasons (including adding maps that were ranked during that season!)

I think it's better to think of this as separate from the Bancho way. it's less about the time period. it should generally be avoided for most maps to repeat in a sequential season, but they could return later. But also I think Titanic originals should be exempt from that and can always be included in the mappool. it's about encouraging diversity of play and promoting the uniqueness of Titanic through timed objectives in a way, which I think is pretty cool :3

ok so wait, it's called "seasonal" but wont be tied to the seasons in any way?
also if that's how bancho does it then that's news to me never knew that; i was just saying anything we gave a leaderboard/ranked in that season will be included in the mappool

it is tied to the seasons because it rotates every season. it says nothing about the mappool itself, only the leaderboard. the Bancho way is that the seasonal leaderboards were tied to the time period of the maps eligible for that leaderboard

i think it might be better to describe it as what if Bancho daily challenges included the whole set and had a pool big enough to support play for three whole months instead of one map a day. it's Quarterly Challenge

One issue that’s pretty minor imo, is the map choices for this to work: the map pool should be balanced across all skill levels to accommodate for everyone.
Other than that, this works, I like this request! Bump!

it sounds like it would overlap a lot with the og charts system, is it intended that this would replace it? I was hoping that those would (eventually) make an appearance here, especially since some of the titanic-allowed clients have built in support for viewing them

yeah, this is a replacement. I personally have no interest in OG charts style. I don't know if it's possible to make it compatible with those in-game listings, but it could with magic
